The BISFA Creative Writing class of 2024 performed an astounding reading for their encyclopedia assignment on January 12th. This was a showcase of all the work put in the past semester for their book Six Writers In Retrospect and their compositions of creative nonfiction encyclopedias after Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s An Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life.
There were many entertaining and beautiful performances throughout the night, expressed through both personal and group entries. One standout of the night was Atheist performed by Sophie Lucas which gave insight on navigating one's path through religion. We also heard several pieces from Avery Morgan throughout the night expressing his passion for his dream cars, including the 1967 Shelby GT500.
There was also a series of group pieces performed by the entire 2024 class. These expressed the closeness of the Seniors and showed the dynamic of the class. The pieces gave personality and intimacy to the audience. One piece titled Impressions, First told stories of how each other felt when they first met. Another that engaged the audience more personally was titled Kahoot, where everyone who attended played a Kahoot answering questions about each of the writers.
Overall the Senior Creative Writers had a very successful reading, the first of three within their final year at Barbara Ingram. Be sure to stay informed and attend their next readings; the Neo-Futurist Reading will be taking place on April 25th, and the Senior Reading on May 23rd.
