On January 14th the Creative writing department held their annual Winter Reading. Several writers performed including Alicia Gentle, Kahmya Wilson, Leah Unger, Grace Lackey, Camden O’Connell, Koa Myers, Nadiya Abdi, Emma Roof, Alexis Nallo, Ally Gibson, Natalee Potter, Bristol Whipp, Ava Mueller, Arri Frederick and Maya Davis. Everyone did a spectacular job at the department's first event of the new year.
There were so many unique works throughout the event. Throughout the reading, several genres were explored with a perfect combination of emotions between the pieces. For example, Nadiya's piece, “Two Lies & One Truth” was read aloud from three different points of view creating a very intriguing and special narrative. Additionally, Natalee read an excerpt from the novel she is writing, “Fatal Remedies” which uses excellent description and sensory details to illustrate the setting and atmosphere perfectly. To close off the reading, Maya read “Flavors of Asia”, a collection of poems she wrote in different Asian styles of writing such as a Japanese Haiku, Tanka, and an Arabic Ghuzal.
Overall, the Winter Reading was an amazing display of poetry and writing. All the creative writers did a phenomenal job with this event. Everyone who read gave a passionate performance for their fantastic stories. If you couldn't make this one or wish to see more like this, next week on Wednesday January 21st the Seniors will be performing their Encyclopedia Reading in the Hagerstown Public Library.
