On October 22 the Creative Writing Department held a Fall Reading, their first reading of the year and everyone did an excellent job! There were a number of writers performing that evening, amongst them, Anya Stuer, Jayden Meekins, Erin McCary, Eliza Lincoln, Autumn Cadwell, Opal Stout, Marley Young, Aidan Morgan, Nadiya Abdi, Jestine Azobua, Star Ashworth, and Grey Palmer.

Anya’s piece, “A Fading Cardinal’s Song”, was a heartfelt poem about losing someone you love. She understood how to use imagery and symbolism to convey her ideas, which made the whole experience very emotional. This was followed by Jayden Meekin’s poem, “A Letter to the Creator” which was based on a video game they’re making. Jayden had a powerful, moving voice when they presented and their piece was extremely well written. Marley Young wrote a short story called “Pop”. “Pop” had a good blend of comedy and seriousness, while it explored a theme of enjoying life and living it to the fullest.

Overall, the Creative Writing Department had an amazing Fall Reading! It was evident that all the writers put their heart into their pieces. If you missed the Fall Reading or want to see another, their next event is the Winter Reading is January 14th.
