Piano and Guitar Recital

by Annabelle Smith

After months of preparation, the pianists and guitarists performed their winter recital. Featuring students from all grade levels, each musician selected a piece that they’ve been practicing and perfecting since September. Many of them had completely memorized their pieces, showcasing not only their talent, but their discipline and dedication to their art.

From Japanese traditionals recreated on the guitar to classical piano staples, the night was filled with delightful music and impressive performances by all who participated. Even the piano teacher, Mrs. Mackley, joined several of her students for piano duets. Beginning with stunning performances by senior pianists, Claire Burger and Eleanor Metz, and ending with a moving piece performed by the guitar ensemble, our BISFA ballroom became a symphony hall for every student to take the stage. The space was filled with proud parents, teachers, and performers by the final number.

While piano and guitar are not their own disciplines, they brought an experience completely unique to themselves during the recital. These students are active in many other music ensembles around the school from chamber choir to jazz band. But tonight, they were given the opportunity to showcase the instruments that began their passion for music. From the smiling faces after each bow to the encouragement given between peers, it was so clear to see how passionate and supportive these groups of musicians are.

If you missed the recital, don’t worry! There’s plenty more to come from both the pianists and the guitarists. You won’t want to miss out on the Messiah performance this Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, where many of these musicians will join the vocal department for a performance of Handel’s most famous work. Then, the guitarists will join the instrumental department for a night of music you won’t want to miss at the Snowball on December 13th.

Soon enough, the school’s largest and final performance will be just around the corner: Holiday Spectacular! To hear more of these solo acts, make sure to attend the opening night of the art exhibition in the BISFA Lobby on December 21st, where the pianists will be performing during the showing. Of course, that’s not all -- every student will get a chance to showcase their art on the Maryland Theater stage later that night.

Be sure to congratulate the pianists and guitarists on their outstanding performance. Congratulations to all the musicians, with a special thanks to Mr. Filipu, Mr. Tritapoe, and Mrs. Mackley. We can’t wait for your next performance!
