The creative writers held their fall reading on October 28th, 2022; their first reading of the 2022-23 school year! Writers had the opportunity to choose one of their writings they had workshopped and revised over the past month and a half to be read that night. As the school year has just begun, writers have worked on pieces from the creative nonfiction or fiction genres. As a result, writers only read pieces from those respective genres. There were eight performers in total, one of which being a collective essay titled Why We Write written by eight of the senior creative writers and performed- by seven.
Starting off the night, Ezran Meinelschmidt set the bar high with their chilling creative nonfiction piece. Painting pictures with their words, Ezran kept the audience engaged and eager to hear more. Following Meinelschmidt, Sarah Rich performed a fiction piece, Charlie Massey also performed a fiction piece. The seniors then took the stage, performing their Why We Write, followed by Brooke Miller’s fiction piece, Angel Scott’s creative nonfiction piece, and Dallin Bennett’s fiction piece. The night ended with a final performance of horror fiction from Avery Morgan, keeping the audience entertained and on the edge of their seats the entire time!
One of the most memorable moments from the night was the seniors’ performance of their Why We Write essay. It was heartfelt, sincere, and relatable to any and all writers. They were able to capture the essence of writing, and how some days are better than others. Sugar-coating nothing, and keeping their stories and experiences authentic to themselves, while capturing a level of relatability. Each of the seniors had certain lines that were unique and specific to themselves, making the essay all the more entertaining to hear.
If you missed this reading, make sure to catch the others! There will be five more readings before the school year is over. The next reading will be the senior class’ encyclopedia reading November 11, 2022 at 6:30pm in the BISFA ballroom. You wouldn’t want to miss them! Don’t forget to congratulate these talented writers on a job well done, and wonderful evening, they deserve it!
